Cedar City

Cedar City is located in Iron County, south of Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. For thousands of years, Cedar City was home to the ancestors of present-day southern Paiute Indians. This city was settled in 1851 by Mormon pioneers who were sent to smelt iron. 10 miles west of formerly named “Fort Cedar” lies Cedar Canyon that’s abundant with Juniper trees and the resource for making coal. Iron works continued in the area until the 1980’s and is now established as a tourism site. Cedar City is also the gateway to Bryce Canyon National Park, Zion National Park, and Grand Canyon National Park.

There are many outdoor recreational activities to choose from for every season from camping at Cedar Canyon in the summer, hiking Cedar Breaks National Monument in the spring, and riding the ski slopes on Cedar Mountain in the winter. Visitors shouldn’t want to miss the Shakespearean Festival held at Cedar City!
