The Hotel de Rome is located in Bebelplatz, off Unter den Linden, not far from the Brandenburg Gate and opposite the Humboldt University in the Mitte district at the heart of Berlin. Bebelplatz is one of Berlin's most impressive squares with its imposing classical buildings; to the right of the hotel is the Opera House and, to the left, the former royal library, now the university law school.

Mitte is one of Berlin's oldest districts housing many of Berlin's main sights including the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag and Alexanderplatz. Potsdamer Platz is one of Berlin's newest areas, rebuilt by the renowned architect Renzo Piano to recapture its former energy and vitality. It is now a magnificent complex that houses futuristic buildings and a pedestrianised forum with upmarket shops, an Imax cinema, smart cafes and restaurants, the Sony Centre and a casino.
