Overview
Introduction
Located in the Saleska valley, 52 mi/84 km northeast of Ljubljana, Velenje, Slovenia, is the economic and administrative hub of the region. It's worth visiting to see the unique Mining Museum of Slovenia, which received an award from the European Museum Forum. There you can take a one-and-a-half-hour trip down into a former Slovene coal mine to experience a miner's life. http://www.rlv.si/muzej/eng/index.htm.
Velenje is also home to the 13th-century Velenje Castle, which is now a museum.
