Rancagua

Overview

Introduction

Site of a famous revolutionary battle, the central valley town of Rancagua, Chile, 55 mi/90 km south of Santiago, is the heart of Chilean rodeo and the gateway to the El Teniente copper mine (the world's largest underground mine) and its ghost town of Sewell, now a national historical monument with an excellent museum. There are regular weekend tours of the mine and/or Sewell, which is 42 mi/67 km northeast of Rancagua.
