Overview
Introduction
Quanzhou, China, is a port city 350 mi/565 km northeast of Hong Kong and just across the water from Taiwan.
Its highlights include ancient temples and mosques and the Museum of Maritime Commerce. The highlight of the museum is a Song dynasty ship recently excavated from the harbor.
The Quanzhou region is the ancestral home to many Taiwanese. As a result, Quanzhou is a prosperous and culturally flourishing area. The city has countless opera troupes and a distinctive marionette theater. (The puppets sold there make great souvenirs.) It also has an unusual temple.
