Prince Rupert, BC

Overview

Introduction

The main attraction of Prince Rupert, British Columbia, is the sea. Located 480 mi/790 km northwest of Vancouver, you can charter a boat to go deep-sea fishing or visit the Museum of Northern British Columbia (coastal history). Try to catch a performance at the Lester Centre of the Arts and see some of the area totem poles.

In Port Edward, south of Prince Rupert, you'll find the North Pacific Cannery National Historic Site, site of the oldest (circa 1889) cannery on the coast. The old docks and manager's village have been restored, and displays have been installed to explain the fishing industry. Ferries leave from Prince Rupert to the Queen Charlotte Islands.
