North Caicos

Overview

Introduction

North Caicos is the northernmost island of the Turks and Caicos chain. It has lime and papaya trees, the beautiful and nearly deserted 7-mi-/11-km-long Whitby Beach, and a handful of hotels.

The main settlements on North Caicos are Bottle Creek, Whitby and Kew. Jeeps and 4x4 vehicles are the best way to explore the area.

Flamingo Pond, as you might guess, is where wild flamingos nest. Visitors can also walk through the ruins of plantations, snorkel Three Mary Cays or dive Cottage Pond to see a recently discovered species of primitive crustacean (class Remipedia, Kaloketos pilosus), and visit local towns.

Bird-watchers will want to head to the secluded Horsestable Beach or Pelican Point. The island is also home to the East Bay Islands National Park. Above all, North Caicos is a great place to dive and snorkel.
