Barcelona is the hub for all intercontinental flights arriving in Catalonia, and there are three other airports with international flights connecting to major European capitals. Catalonia is a year round destination. Most popular travel periods are from April until October, especially in destinations by the seaside. Winter months are preferred by those looking for a skiing holiday in the Pyrenees Mountains.

The local currency is the euro. The euro is divided into 100 cents. Currency exchange is available at all bank offices, open to the public Monday through Saturday, from 8.30 am to 2 am (except in the months of June through September, when they remain closed on Saturday). Currency exchange shops are available in all major cities, as well as some hotels and travel agencies.

Payment using recognized international credit cards is commonly available in local shops and restaurants.

Catalonia has 2 official languages: Catalan and Spanish.
English is widely spoken in main tourist areas.

Tipping is not customary in Catalonia

American citizens can enter Catalonia visa-free for periods of up to 90 days for tourist or business purposes. A passport validity of 3 months beyond your date of departure is required and 6 months recommended.

Generally speaking, Catalonia enjoys a temperate and mild Mediterranean climate with more than 300 days of sunshine per year, characterized by dry, warm summers and moderately cool winters. In the higher parts of the country, the climate is harsher and it is common to see snow from the beginning of winter to the end of spring.
