Maloelap Atoll
Overview
Introduction
During World War II, this atoll was the easternmost Japanese base in the Pacific. Bombed and bypassed by the U.S. Navy, Maloelap still has numerous Japanese guns, intact pillboxes and wrecked Zeros, as well as a submerged wreck (the freighter
Toroshima Maru). You can reach Maloelap on weekly excursion flights from Majuro. Take one and spend an afternoon exploring, swimming and dining on a delicious seafood lunch.
105 mi/170 km north of Majuro.
