Tighina
Overview
Introduction
This city is Moldova's oldest settlement—there's evidence of human habitation in the second century BC. Tighina has been destroyed twice: once during World War II, and a second time in the struggle for independence in 1991. We recommend that travelers avoid this city, as there is little to do, getting to and from it can be a hassle, and the presence of Russian and international peacekeepers there can overshadow your trip.
30 mi/50 km southeast of Chisinau.
