Port Blair, which is the capital of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, is a remote harbor located on the east coast of South Andaman. The city is the arrival point for visitors to the island, and it is also the only place with a bank and hotels. Getting around the city is easy by foot or auto-rickshaw, though it is possible to get lost among the steep hill streets. If you do get lost, head to Aberdeen Bazar, which is by the old clock tower, where there are many restaurants and hotels
The city was originally established as a jail for political prisoners, and portions of the jail still remain as a monument to the city's storied past. A tour of the jail is worth your time.
Most businesses are closed on Monday in Andamans.
