Inwa
Overview
Introduction
Except for a few minor interruptions, Inwa, formerly known as Ava, was Myanmar's capital city for nearly 400 years, before finally losing that crown to nearby Amarapura. Little remains of the original city, located 13 mi/21 km southwest of Mandalay, but a sprinkling of crumbling
stupas, monasteries and a leaning watchtower set among fields allow for a pleasant day trip from Mandalay's sprawl, particularly when visited in a rickety horse-drawn buggy.
