Quorghon-Teppa
Overview
Introduction
The main draw of Quorghon-Teppa is the remains of an ancient Buddhist temple nearby. Sadly, only a shell survives—most of the temple's treasures were moved to St. Petersburg, Russia, in the 1800s. A subtropical jungle can be seen at the Tigrovaya Balka (Tiger Ravine) of the Vakhsh River. Next to the city bazaar is a handicraft store started by the U.N. which supports local women, and has a good selection and cheap prices.
40 mi/65 km south of Dushanbe.
