Hoonah, Alaska, is a place rich in beauty, culture, and tradition. Located on Chichagof Island along the southeast Inside Passage, this charming seaside community is surrounded by the Tongass National Forest, where towering evergreens blanket its steep coastal mountains. The Huna Tlingit people have lived in this region for many hundreds of years. There are bears in the forest, fish in the sea, and gold in the hearts of those who live here. Attend an enthralling and vibrant native cultural presentation. Explore an old fish cannery which now houses a museum and array of shops featuring local crafts. Ride the gentle gondola up the steep bluff and enjoy breathtaking views. Or slide down a mile-long zipline cable back to the shoreline. Walk along the scenic waterfront and sit for a while to watch the tide ease in and out as behind the sparkling water the mountains tower.,

Hoonah's founding people, the Huna Tlingit people, originally occupied Glacier Bay, but relocated due to advancing glaciers into the city's current place along the Inside Passage. Tall evergreens cover the mountains along the coast, and across the Icy Strait twenty-five miles north is Glacier Bay National Park, one of the seven small wonders of the world. Hoonah is a prime location to view birds and wildlife, as it hosts the largest brown bear population in the world, in addition to opportunities to view bald eagles and humpback whales.

This day of cruising offers an array of scenic highlights as our small ship meanders the narrow channel of the Tracy Arm Fjord. Throughout the 25-mile journey, the waterway averages only about a mile wide, framed by steep vertical cliffs stretching more than 3,000 feet high. Pockets of valleys reveal views of larger, snow-capped peaks featuring mountainsides adorned with ancient forest and swaths of sparkling glaciers. Hundreds of waterfalls cascade down the cliffs and tumble into the water. The miraculous journey is further heightened as the ship arrives at the faces of the stunning twin Sawyer Glaciers that once combined to carve out this incredible waterway. Seals lounge with their young on small ice floes. During glacier viewing, the crew prepares a delicious hot-chocolate bar with an array of toppings and liqueurs. The area is almost unchanged since naturalist John Muir visited in 1879 and described this special place as "shut in by sublime cliffs, nobly sculptured, and adorned with waterfalls and fringes of trees, bushes, and patches of flowers".,
