On the east coast of The Sound (Öresund), between Sweden and Denmark, Helsingborg captivates with its rich heritage and its beauty, with lush valleys and luxuriant forests. Walk along the cobbled streets of the historic town centre of Helsingborg, where the charm of the old world encounters the vibrant energy of the new. Kronborg Castle, perched majestically on a hill, overlooks the city, evoking the era of Swedish kings and queens.

Helsingborg is a picturesque seaport. Luxurious houses have Town Hall as the crowning glory. Stortorget slopes up to what is left of Helsingborg’s medieval castle, the Kärnanm, which for more than 600 years has watched over the town and the Sound. In addition to attractive 17th- and 18th-century merchants’ houses with quiet courtyards, there are good museums. Sofiero Castle was once the summer residence of the royal family, noted for splendid botanical and rose gardens. Ramlösa Health Spa, with its famous springs, is well-known and its natural mineral water is exported to more than 35 countries. Located on Stortorget, the Stenbock Statue was erected in 1901 and depicts Field Marshal Magnus Stenbock. The Gothic-style Town Hall, which was built in the 1890s, has a 195-foot bell tower, a richly ornamented façade, a magnificent interior, and stained glass paintings depicting town history. There are 23 golf courses within an hour’s drive from Helsingborg; a ferry ride takes visitors across the Sound to Danish Helsingør, site of Kronborg Castle of Hamlet.

Discover Karlskrona on the southern coast of Sweden, between land and sea, spread over the small islands of the Blekinge archipelago. Its strategic position on the Baltic Sea made it the headquarters of the Swedish Royal Navy and its naval dockyard on the orders of King Karl XI of Sweden, in 1680. Constructed from nothing, the citadel has kept its architecture, whose coherence and conservation have today earned its listing as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its authentic colourful wooden houses facing the sea - which is never too far away - and its rich naval history give it an exquisite and unique charm. Do not miss this visit.

Karlskrona is beautifully situated on the south-east tip of Sweden, built upon 33 islands around the island of Trossö in the Blekinge archipelago. A baroque city founded in 1680 and inspired by Venice. The beautiful archipelago surrounding Karlskrona is now open to everyone. The larger islands of Hasslö, Senoren, Sturkö and Tjurkö are accessible by bridge. Reach the outskirts of the archipelago by skerry boat. The genuine charm and lovely surroundings. In the very far distance are the harsh, fascinating islets of Utklippan, frequented by the migrating birds. Call in at the crafts workshops or curing houses with their wide range of smoked fish and enjoy the harvests of the season. Experience, as well, the Oak Kingdom, with genuine handicrafts, ceramic workshops and a host of other attractions. Among the many other activities one can partake of in Karlskrona and it's surroundings, are the well-known Sail Festival, golf, fishing, canoeing, cycling, bathing and camping.

Former trading post of the Hanse, Kalmar is famous for its medieval castle, where in 1397 the Union between the crowns of Sweden, Denmark and Norway was signed, to combat the powerful Hanseatic League. Located directly at the entrance to the port, this fortress surrounded by water, whose square tower dates from the 12th century, was then transformed into a Renaissance palace. You can discover the baroque historical centre of the town and the charming narrow streets and colourful wooden houses of the Gamla Stan district. Opposite, the great island of Öland protects the city from attacks from the Baltic Sea. This lush green island with its huge beaches is one of the favourite summer destinations of Swedes.

Located on a narrow waterway between the mainland and the island of Oland, Kalmar at one time played an important strategic role by controlling trade in the Baltic Sea. Once the third largest city in Sweden, Kalmar has a well-preserved medieval old town located just below the fortified Kalmar castle, parts of which date from 1160 A.D.

This old Hanseatic city lies to the west coast of Gotland, a Swedish island in the Baltic sea. Pass through the spectacular Visby fortifications and visit the old town, a UNESCO World Heritage site. You’ll discover the grand Visby homes of rich merchants as well as the lovely low wooden houses in the little cobbled streets. Don’t miss Saint Mary’s cathedral with its octagonal steeples, as well as Powder tower along the fortifications. Make sure you stop over in one of the rose-adorned cafés; indeed roses abound in this town where you can taste one of the island’s specialities, namely saffron pancakes with red fruit.

Today a thriving holiday resort, Visby on the Baltic island of Gotland has become famous as 'the town of roses and ruins' - a living relic of a medieval heyday when this Hanseatic port vied in riches and fame with the great capitals of mainland Europe. Now its narrow cobbled streets and ruined churches reside behind the two-and-a-half mile 13th century city wall, a haunting monument to a lost glory. Gotland and Oland are part of the Baltic islands off the southeast coast of Sweden. Gotland is a blend of old and new with its natural beauty and cultural heritage. Hoards of coins and other treasures found on the island indicate its importance in maritime trade as far back as the Bronze Age. Gotland was nominally Swedish as early as the 9th century but long remained autonomous. In the Middle Ages Visby was a rich and important member of the Hanseatic League and had many splendid churches and elaborate fortified walls. Gotland was conquered by Denmark in 1361 and returned to Swedish rule in 1645.
